Research & Application
This research paper is the end-product from a History Senior seminar, where we discussed scholarship and historical interpretation in class while conducting individual research and constructing our papers. This was the largest written assignment I had undertaken at this point, and I learned how to find, analyze, and apply various primary sources from Nazi Germany.
Nazi Art Looting:
Alfred Rosenberg & the ERR
I wanted to explore the wartime actions of the 'art industry' that formed, which stole works from Jewish people, sold them abroad for war-financing, and gave them to Nazi leadership for their service to the Reich. This paper presented me with the opportunity to dive into primary sources from Nazi Germany, using court documents, diaries, speeches, and publications to create this larger picture of Nazi art dealings. With my interests in cultural preservation and how historical objects relate to modern social or political identities, I was drawn to this subject matter.
